Acanthophthalmus kuhlii

Scientific name: Acanthophthalmus kuhlii.

Origin: Malaysia, Sumatra, Java and Borneo.

Habitat: They live in the beds of sand of slow rivers and clean brooks of mountain.

Morphology: The kuhli is a fish with shape of eel, with sides slightly tablets, four pairs of chins around the mouth and fins very small. The fin dorsal begins behind the average part of the body, and the fin anal a lot for behind this. The eyes are covered with a transparent skin. The body has 10 to 15 cm. Of dark brown colour to black, vertical bars and the distances between them are of colour pink salmon to yellow, to the inferior part. The differences between male and females are not easily evident.

Maintenance: Aquariums with gravel fine, dense vegetation with plants of fine and floating leaves to attenuate light. Hiding  between roots and stones. Quality of the constant water. Resistant fish and of long life in the aquarium, can live until more than 10 years.

Behaviour:  Solitary fishes. They swim near the inferior part. They can hide at bottom and over there remain invisible during long periods of time, going out to eat during the night.

Feeding:Omnivorous, live food, tabletslyophilized. They arescavengers.

Reproduction: Theputting  is not easy, but when produces , the eggs are left to go under the surface of the water. Adhere to roots of the floating plants or remain hanged over there. The eggs have a coloration  green clear and are very small.
