FROMIA ROJA
-Habitat: Indo-Pacific Ocean, including the east coast of Africa and the Red Sea.
They are found in sandy and rocky sea lagoon and reef slopes.
-Morphology: pentaradial symmetrical, flat body is formed by a disc pentagonal with five arms.
They have an internal skeleton and a calcareous ambulacral system, which serves for locomotion, capturing food and breathing.
Reach a size of 7.5 to 10 cm, and can sometimes reach 15 cm.
-Maintenance:
Particularly sensitive to variations in water density. It recomeinda mature reef aquarium, where you can find algae and detritus, which are their main food.
-Food:
Detritivores, predatory and carnivorous, feeding on detritus as both of mollusks, crustaceans and other marine animals.
Breeding:
Although many of them are hermaphrodites and can spawn eggs and sperm so they can also have a curious system of asexual reproduction. In this type of reproduction, the starfish can regenerate fully from a single arm that for whatever reason has been excised. |
