PHENACOGRAMMUS INTERRUPTUS
Scientific name: Phenacogrammus interruptus.
Common name: Tetra of the congo.
Origin: Africa, basin of river Congo.
Habitat: Basin fluvial of the river , in zones covered of vegetation and of calm wàters.
Morphology: It is a fish of size medium, of sides crushed with big flakes, presents several tonalities that go of the greenish and iridescent blue to the violet or to the yellow, depending of the reflection of the light, his abdomen is brownish and the fins are of colour grayish, topped with a white rivet in the fin anal and caudal. The eyes are proportionally big in regard to the head.Males are significantly larger and more color than females. Presented ventral tail fin and more developed, and anal more rounded . In aquarium can achieve the 8,5 cm the male and 6 cm the females.
Maintenance:Community aquarium with abundant vegetation and space to swim. Prefer water slightly acid and soft, but is a bit tolerant with these values and adapts to wàters more hard.
PH: 6.0 – 7.4 GH: 5ºd a 10ºd. Temperature: 24 – 28 º C
Behaviour: It is an active fish, of association in group, thus it has to live in a cardumen. When it does not find to taste, alone remain static in the water, unseen between the vegetation. It is common that pursue between them, although we do not have to alarm us, since they do not produce damages. They are peaceful with the rest of compatible fishes, how others tetras, cíchlids little aggressive or fishes of bottom.
Feeding :Omnivorous species, accepts everything type of aliment (alive, frozen, lyophilized and even the food in flakes).
Reproduction: There is a fish easy to reproduce in the aquarium, but it is possible. It can spawn several couples together, with higher proportion of males than females or alike. An increase in illumination intensity and frequent water changes constitute an effective stimulus to induce spawning. For breeding if it is essential that water hardness is very low and acidic, or egg laying does not occur or will be infertile.
