 XENIA ELONGATA

 
Scientific name: Xenia elongata.
Common name: Xenia pulsing.
Classification: Soft coral.

Habitat: The majority of the specimens have grown in captivity .

Morphology: It has robust stems of until 3 inches of long that they are of colour cinnamon. The extreme of the stem is covered with a crown of feathers of the polyps, everyone brings in a stem of roughly 1 to 2 inches of long. The polyps open and close in an attractive movement. Groups of these stems form colonies that can extend to big mats.

Maintenance: Flow of strong and high water luminosity possible. It needs supplement of iodine. Resistant. Xenia is one of the few chorals that does bad smell when extract of the water.

8.1 – 8.4              Temperature: 24 – 26 º C         Salinity: 1024 – 1026 

 

Behaviour: Low aggressiveness. It does not possess any capacity of apparent sting and will not bother with other chorals.

Feeding: Xenia is photosynthetic and does not accept any food known. It thinks that absorb some of his nutrients directly of the water.


Reproduction: When it is well, can reproduce for division to an alarming rhythm and can force to cut frequently to avoid that it give exclusion to other chorals.
